AMP Public Utilities Board President appointed to American Public Power Association’s Policy Makers Council

Christina Nagy McKenna to represent APPA member organizations on issues of public power

December 28, 2023 - Christina Nagy McKenna, President of the Public Utilities Board (PUB) for Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), has been selected as a regular member of the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Policy Makers Council (PMC) for a three-year term. In this role, Ms. McKenna will represent APPA’s California, Nevada, and Arizona region.

“The opportunity to serve on the Policy Makers Council ensures that Alameda Municipal Power and other public power providers have a voice in energy issues of national importance,” said Christina Nagy McKenna, Alameda Municipal Power Board President and new Policy Makers Council member. “I look forward to participating and advocating for legislation that shapes the future of public power.”

The PMC is made up of local leaders from public power communities and APPA member organizations across the country. Its mission is to assist APPA in promoting federal policies that are important to public power utilities nationwide, such as climate policy, grid security, energy infrastructure investments, and preserving local control. Public power utilities serve more than 49 million customers and employ more than 93,000 people nationwide.

“Alameda Municipal Power is honored to have our Public Utilities Board President, Christina Nagy McKenna, on the Policy Makers Council to champion issues that are critically important to the public power sector,” said Nicolas Procos, General Manager of Alameda Municipal Power. “This appointment is a reflection of the leadership and depth of knowledge Ms. McKenna brings to the energy industry and to our municipal utility.”

Ms. McKenna is AMP’s current PUB President and has served as a board member since July 2021. For the past two decades, she has worked as an instructor, trainer, and consultant for energy companies and public agencies across the United States. Ms. McKenna’s expertise includes issues pertaining to utility operations, energy efficiency, regulatory management, and energy market restructuring.

The 45-member council will meet at least twice a year and participate in meetings with elected officials and congressional staff to support the APPA’s national legislative agenda. Ms. McKenna’s term will begin January 2024.
