ALAMEDA, CA. -- On February 13, 2023 Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) is pleased to announce that it has secured a long-term purchase agreement with the Northern California Power Agency (NCPA) and the Geysers Power Company, LLC, (Geysers) an indirect subsidiary of Calpine Corporation, that reinforces AMP’s commitment to 100% clean power for all Alameda residents and businesses. Under this agreement, AMP will procure and deliver up to 5 megawatts (MW’s) of clean, renewable energy produced from the Geysers geothermal power plants located in California’s Sonoma and Lake Counties for a period of 12 years beginning in 2025. Each MW is capable of powering approximately 750 homes. AMP has been providing 100% clean power since January 2020 and was one of the first utilities in the nation to achieve this high standard. “We are pleased to partner with NCPA and the Geysers to provide cost-effective, clean and renewable energy to our customers,” said AMP’s General Manager Nicolas Procos. “The addition of this geothermal contract is a great fit for our portfolio and our customers’ needs as we continue to support the journey to electrify Alameda.”
