Public Utilities Board Approves Second Consecutive Year of No Rate Increases for Customers

 ALAMEDA, CA –
At a time when Alamedans continue to experience the economic impacts of COVID-19, the city of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board decided not to increase rates for all customers through June 2022. At its April 19 meeting, the board decided that customers will see no change in the electric rates they pay throughout the 2022 fiscal year.

The electric utility’s strong financial outlook makes it possible for the board to not raise rates. This is the second consecutive fiscal year that the board decided not to increase rates.

AMP, which is owned by the community, does not make a profit on rates. Comparing AMP’s rates to PG&E’s rates, AMP customers will save 26% on average, or $22 million total, on their utility bills in fiscal year 2022.

“As a community-owned utility, our customers not only save money, but they also receive 100% clean energy,” AMP General Manager Nicolas Procos said. “In honor of Earth Week, we are taking pride in our commitments to clean energy and competitive rates.”

The board will vote on the fiscal year 2022 budget at its meeting on June 21, 2021. AMP’s 2022 fiscal year begins on July 1, 2021 and runs through June 30, 2022.
