Pole Fire Results in Power Outage
Alameda, Calif., Sept 14, 2009 - An electrical fire on a utility pole was the cause of a power outage affecting approximately 2,800 Alameda Municipal Power customers east of Pearl Street on Saturday afternoon. The outage began at 12:37 p.m. when a crossarm attached to a utility pole on Otis Drive and Mound Street caught fire due to the combination of light rains and the typical dust that collects on the insulators. Power was restored to 2,575 customers by 2:12 p.m. when AMP crews completed a safety check of the system and isolated the failed crossarm. Approximately 225 customers in an area generally bounded by Washington Street and Otis Drive from Mound Street to Broadway were restored at 4:08 p.m., once all repairs were made by AMP repair crews.
