Public Utilities Board Approves FY 2016 Budget
ALAMEDA, Calif. – At its regular meeting on June 15, the City of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board approved Alameda Municipal Power’s (AMP) $62.5 million budget for fiscal year (FY) 2016. The Board also approved a transfer of $2.8 million to the City of Alameda’s General Fund. The budget reflects the priorities set by the Board through its adopted strategic plan, the annual planning workshop held in January 2015, and the annual budget workshop held in April 2015. Major projects for FY 2016 include continued work on the second electrical crossing to Coast Guard Island, expanded implementation of the advanced metering pilot, and upgrades to transmission, distribution and substation equipment. The budget also includes the conversion of most of the city’s streetlights to LEDs as well as expanded energy efficiency rebate programs for residential and commercial customers. AMP customers continue to pay significantly less for electricity than most Californians and, as of January 2015, about 22 percent less than residential customers in neighboring cities like San Leandro and Oakland. These lower rates help ensure that an additional $10 million per year stays in Alameda. AMP is one of the City of Alameda's largest businesses. It serves the community with a reliability record within the top quartile of all western U.S. utilities, ranks highest in the state for customer satisfaction, and is a national leader in providing renewable power. As a 128-year-old community-owned and locally operated electric system, AMP is a direct contributor to the City of Alameda’s economic well-being and quality of life through annual transfers to the city’s general fund.
All Board materials are available on the AMP website. AMP’s 2016 fiscal year begins on July 1 and runs through June 30, 2017.
