Alameda Municipal Power Earns Two National "Top 10" Rankings for Alameda Green

ALAMEDA, CA – For the third year in a row, Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) has been recognized as a national industry leader for its voluntary green power program, Alameda Green. AMP has earned two separate top 10 rankings from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the U.S. Department of Energy's primary national laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research.

Alameda Green gives residents and businesses the option to match up to 100 percent of their monthly electricity use with renewable energy sourced from wind, biogas and solar projects. To date, the program’s participants include more than 3,400 residents and 75 businesses.

The first ranking highlights AMP’s high percentage of customers participating in Alameda Green in 2017. With 8.9 percent of Alameda’s customers participating in the program in 2017, AMP earned a 7th place ranking on the list of national utilities with the highest green power program participation rate. AMP’s 2017 ranking shows a jump in participation from 2016, when the utility ranked 8th in this category.

The second ranking showcases AMP’s green power megawatt-hour (MWh) sales in comparison with total utility MWh sales, where the utility placed 9th with 3.2 percent of total utility megawatt-hour (MWh) sales coming from Alameda Green in 2017.

“We are excited to learn the 2017 NREL results and we want to thank the Alameda community for supporting this program,” AMP General Manager Nicolas Procos said. “As a community-owned utility, we are pleased to provide this option to our customers, who want to do all they can to protect the environment.”
