Board Approves Community-Focused Goals for Alameda Municipal Power
ALAMEDA, CA – At its January 28 meeting, the city of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board approved a long-term plan for Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) that reflects the community’s environmental and business goals. Over the past year, residents, business leaders, developers, environmental advocates and AMP staff came together to create a new, 5-year strategic plan for Alameda’s community-owned utility. The goals of the plan include: leveraging the community’s long-standing commitment to the environment to address climate change, maintaining competitive energy rates, and ensuring that AMP continues to attract a talented workforce. Starting next year, AMP will achieve a zero-carbon energy supply and will continue to serve the community with clean electricity in the future. Achieving and maintaining carbon-neutral energy resources aligns with the important goals outlined in the city of Alameda’s Local Action Plan for Climate Protection. The strategic plan also focuses on programs to encourage Alamedans to save energy and drive electric. The plan also incorporates the goals of AMP’s business community. One of the key business goals is to keep Alameda’s energy rates significantly lower than those in neighboring areas. In addition, the plan addresses AMP’s goals for maintaining a talented workforce in the future. “AMP is thankful for the active engagement from all areas of the community and our employees in the development of the strategic plan,” said Nico Procos, AMP’s general manager. “We are excited to roll out the initiatives for the benefit of the community.” Read AMP’s Final Strategic Plan (PDF).
