About Us

Welcome to Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), where delivering 100% clean power is at the forefront of what we do. Founded in 1887, AMP is the oldest operating municipal electric utility in California. We are a full-service electricity provider with in-house engineering, line operations, substation maintenance, energy procurement, program development, and customer services teams, and are deeply embedded in the Alameda community. As a public utility and a department of the City of Alameda, AMP is community powered, and community engaged.

AMP is organized into three primary divisions:

  • Engineering and Operations – Responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of AMP’s electric transmission and distribution facilities, as well as emergency response and grid operations.
  • Customer & Energy Resources – Responsible for procurement of 100% clean power, electrification programs in support of Alameda’s Climate Action & Resiliency Plan, communications, and account services.
  • Administration – Oversees finance, utility billing, investment management, technologies, office support, customer service, and regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to AMP policies and State of California requirements.
