Alameda Municipal Power Activating Storm Preparedness Plan

ALAMEDA, Calif. – As the Bay Area braces for a powerful storm early Thursday morning, Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) is reminding customers that power outages may occur due to significant rainfall, potential flooding and high winds. AMP has activated its storm preparedness plan and will be ready to restore service to impacted customers as safely and quickly as possible.

AMP Now Accepting Entries for “Careers in Energy Contest”

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), as part of the California Energy and Utility Workforce Consortium, announced today a “Careers in Energy Contest.” The contest is open to all California high school and college students. Winners will receive cash prizes of up to $1,500 (high school) and $2,000 (college) for the best entries. The entry deadline is January 26, 2015.

AMP Warns Customers of Phony Bill Scam

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) is warning customers today of a scam targeting small businesses in Alameda.

AMP has received multiple complaints from local businesses this week that someone impersonating a utility representative (either on the phone or in person) is claiming their electric accounts are past due and will be disconnected. The individual goes on to provide payment instructions via Green Dot MoneyPaks or NetSpend prepaid debit cards.

Back in the 1990s, Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) was one of the first utilities to invest heavily in renewable power. And since then, we've all been justifiably proud of our "Greenest Little Utility" reputation. But in today's world, with our growing awareness of climate change and our understanding of the impact of our carbon footprint, it's not enough for a utility to rely on renewable power alone.

Public Utilities Board Presents Check to Alameda Education Foundation

ALAMEDA, Calif. – At its regular meeting on July 21, the City of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board presented a check for $13,239.29 to the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF). The check represents funds collected by Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) for Power Up for Learning, a joint program of AMP and AEF.

ALAMEDA, Calif. – City Manager John Russo today announced the appointment of Glenn Steiger as general manager of city-owned Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), replacing former manager Girish Balachandran who left the utility in December.

Power Outage - June 28, 2014

Alameda Municipal Power experienced a power outage on Saturday, June 28. 

The outage, affecting about 350 customers, began at 9:30 am in the Central Ave. from Union St. to Oak St. area. Power was restored to all customers at approximately 12:30 pm.

Public Utilities Board Approves FY 2015 Budget

ALAMEDA, Calif. – At its regular meeting on June 23, the City of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board approved Alameda Municipal Power’s (AMP) $62.4 million budget for fiscal year (FY) 2015. The Board also approved a transfer of $2.8 million to the City of Alameda’s General Fund.

AMP Begins Restoration of 684 Historic Streetlights

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) today announced that the utility will begin restoration in early May of 684 historic streetlights located throughout the city. Up to 60 streetlights per week will be refurbished until the project is completed this summer.

Public Utilities Board Approves Electric Rate Increase

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The City of Alameda’s Public Utilities Board last night unanimously approved the fifth year of Alameda Municipal Power’s (AMP) five-year rate adjustment plan for all customers. The average overall increase of 2 percent will be reflected on electric bills beginning July 1, 2014.

City of Alameda Scores Final Win in Telecom Litigation

ALAMEDA, Calif. – After nearly six years of litigation, U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston entered final judgment for the City of Alameda on all claims brought against the city by Vectren Communications Services, a subsidiary of Vectren Corporation, a $5 billion Indiana-based energy conglomerate. Judge Illston’s judgment in Alameda’s favor all but extinguishes Vectren’s case against the city, leaving it with only the hope of another appeal. The judgment likely marks the end of the Alameda telecom litigation, in which Alameda once faced three separate lawsuits and a combined $25 million in damage claims.

AMP Warns Customers of New Phone Scam Today

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) has received several complaints from residential customers that someone impersonating a utility representative has called their homes. The caller claims the customer’s account is past due and will be disconnected shortly. The calls appear to be coming from a cell phone number in Hayward, California. AMP has notified the police and they are investigating.
